Sarah Harding has looked back on her time acting alongside Kate Ford on Coronation Street where she played the role of Robert Preston’s wife Joni.
The Girls Aloud star, 39, opened up on the time she was on the cobbles, saying it was “hard” for her to get into her stride as a short-term character.
Sarah, who revealed she has no chance of becoming a mum after undergoing chemotherapy for her breast cancer, joined the soap back in July 2015 where she appeared in four episodes across two months.
Writing in her book Hear Me Out, the singer wrote: “It’s such an iconic show, an institution, and when you’re going on as a short-term character, it’s hard to get into your stride.
“That was a tough gig for me because it was like I was playing a part that wasn’t a million miles away from the real me.”
Sarah went on to tell her fans it might have been easier to settle into the role if she had to speak an accent or had different hair.
“I played Joni, Robert Preston’s wife. She came in all guns blazing, looking for her old man on the cobbles and finding him in a relations with Tracy Barlow,” she shared.
“Corrie is shot at a very fast pace, and they literally threw me in the deep end. In fact, my very first day on set was pretty much all screaming, crying and slapping.”
Sarah looked back on her scenes where viewers saw the singer enter Weatherfield looking for her husband Robert, played by Tristan Gemmill, who had reignited his romance with Tracy.
Speaking about how she enjoyed filming with Kate Ford, who played Tracy, she explained: “She’s a lovely girl, and we ended up having a proper giggle together.
“It’s funny, back when I filmed Bad Day, I had pages of dialogue to learn for a scene on the phone in the back of a car, and I was fine with it.
“Still, on Corrie, after two or three ones with the iconic Rita Sullivan in The Kabin, my knees turned to jelly.”
While Sarah faced backlash over her Coronation Street appearance, she didn’t let the critics get her down.

“With soaps, [viewers] are very familiar with the characters, so it is very difficult to be accepted if you’re a known face for something else,” she previously told the Daily Mail.
Sarah announced in August last year that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, which “advanced to other parts of my body”.
She has been undergoing intensive chemotherapy to try and relieve some of her symptoms and it appears it’s working as she’s written in her upcoming book Hear Me Out that her brain and lung tumours have shrunk.
