Max Whitlock has arrived back home after winning Gold at this year’s Olympics in Tokyo, an even greater success than his Rio 2016 gold haul, and OK! were invited to his home in Essex to share his delight at being reunited with his family.
Max was happy to pose for photographs showing off his medal and his amazing skills on a pommel horse, and also revealed that there could be another Whitlock star in the making.
Sporting success runs in the family with his wife Leah being a gymnastics coach, which she says helps her to support Max with his training.
She says: “As I’m involved in gymnastics, I understand what it takes to get to Max’s level. So when training goes badly, I pick Max up, and if it goes well then we’ll celebrate.”

And perhaps unsurprisingly, their daughter Willow has also already started to show talent in the sport.
The two and a half year old takes classes in gymnastics once a week, and Max reveals they do have hopes of her competing in the future.
“You never know,” says Max. “We want her to do loads of different sports – she’s having her first tennis lesson soon. The only thing that scares me about her doing gymnastics is that she has my surname and that will pile a lot of pressure on her.”
Mum Leah says: “We’d love her to be involved in gym and in sport in general, and if she likes it then we’ll support her, wherever that takes her.”
Leah and Max share with OK! how the focus is very much on their family, and their delight at being back together after Max was away for five weeks. The nation enjoyed seeing the video of Willow running up to meet her dad at the airport when he arrived home from Tokyo.
They celebrated with all their family after his dazzling win, which made Max the most successful gymnast in Olympic history on the pommel horse.
Max says: “I went round to my parents’ house the next day and just chilled out. That’s what I wanted to do the most – just chill with all my family, the people who have helped me get to the point where I am. Then we had a big party with neighbours and friends of mine from the gym, and we’re off to Devon for five days on holiday now.”
They’ve certainly earned that staycation!
