Caroline Flack “was extremely supportive” to former Love Island star Zara Holland after her time on the show.
The late Love Island presenter warned the Islander to ignore trolls bombarding her with negative messages, after she had sex in the villa in 2016.
Zara says she will never forget her kindness.
Zara told the Mirror: “She was extremely supportive, she sent me her mobile and she was like, ‘Please, any time you want to chat or you need anything, please let me know.’
“She even said to me: ‘Please ignore the trolls, ignore the people that are going to hate.’
“She was extremely supportive and I will never, ever forget how kind she was to me.”
Caroline took her own life in February 2020.
Now, Zara says she regrets having sex with fellow contestant Alex Bowen on the show.
“I regret massively having sex on the show,” she admits.
“As I’ve got older, my opinion’s been split but I really do regret it.
“If I could turn back the clock, I would. I know I didn’t do anything illegal, I was twenty at the time, there’s nothing to be ashamed of but yes, you know, it was the biggest regret.”
Zara was controversially stripped of her Miss Great Britain title after the incident.
She says she had been feeling “horrendous, awful and really insecure” after producers arranged a game where the boys rated the girls by attractiveness, and Zara was picked last.
“They voted me the least pretty, I was the boring-est,” she says. “If somebody says, ‘You’re boring and not pretty and have a s*** personality,’ it’s going to make you feel horrendous.
“It made me feel awful, I was so upset.”
Caroline spoke out in defence of Zara, writing online: “Feel even more sorry for Zara now she’s been de-crowned. She’s a very sweet girl .
“What even is ‘Miss GB’ ? Are we living in the dark ages?”
Caroline also defended Love Island showing sex scenes on TV.
“We only show sex in the programme if it’s relative to the storyline,” she said. “It’s not gratuitous.
“It doesn’t bother me watching it because I’m not prudish about that sort of thing. I think it’s quite natural.
“If you don’t like watching it, don’t watch it.”
